Accessing NHS Services Workshop

I am pleased to offer your organisation a workshop designed to help immigrants and international students better understand how to navigate and access NHS services and their rights within the UK healthcare system.

The presenter: This workshop is delivered by me, Abdullah Saaidi, a Public Health professional with experience working across several organisations, including the NHS. As an immigrant myself, I found it challenging to access the NHS — a system that can often feel confusing for newcomers.

Why this workshop matters: A good understanding of how to use NHS services appropriately is essential to save lives, as well as save NHS resources, it can:

  • Improve health outcomes and ensure people access the right care at the right time.
  • Reduce unnecessary usage of urgent and emergency services, saving the NHS significant time and resources.
  • Increase awareness of healthcare rights, especially for those with varying visa statuses.
  • Promote responsible use of services, which is important in a publicly-funded system.
  • Build a sense of belonging, helping newcomers feel more confident, valued, and included within UK society.

What the workshop covers: Participants will gain a practical, easy-to-understand overview of:

  • How NHS services work and what each service is for
  • When and how to access different types of care
  • Understanding costs, entitlements, and fees exemptions
  • Accessing digital tools such as the NHS App
  • Knowing your rights as a patient

Who this workshop is for: This session is ideal for organisations supporting:

  • Newly arrived immigrants
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • International students

If you work with people who are new to the UK and could benefit from clearer, more confident navigation of the NHS, this workshop would be an excellent resource.
